The project involved a complex fit-out of a 13-story, 145,000 square foot space, including various cancer care units such as radiation therapy, exam rooms, infusion suites, and laboratories. Cauldwell Wingate oversaw the management of specialty trades, including radiation protection installation, pneumatic tube system implementation, and specialty flooring. Healthcare/Life Sciences Callen-lorde Community Health Clinic and Pharmacy Project Info Project Info Callen-lorde Community Health Clinic and Pharmacy Cauldwell Wingate was responsible for the complete renovation of this primary healthcare center and pharmacy dedicated to meeting the health needs of the LGBTQ communities. Scope included the full multi-floor renovation of offices, patient rooms, phlebotomy spaces, and laboratory rooms. In addition, work also included the infill of a skylight, new mechanical equipment, and a complete renovation of the clinic’s pharmacy. The renovation of the pharmacy involved the installation of new counters, partitions, high-end millwork and associated finishes, casework, and pharmacy distribution equipment. The project included four individually phased pharmacies totaling approximately 4,000sf. Each pharmacy needed to be turned over in 2 months’ time or less. Work included pneumatic tube systems for transport of materials, clean room construction for drug compounding and pass-through windows for patient transactions. Phase I required the construction of temporary science laboratories to accommodate programming requirements while the new labs were under construction. Phase II of the project included the gut-renovation of existing lab spaces, including new laboratory millwork, gas and water hookups, showers, and emergency eyewash areas. In addition, the laboratories were outfitted with new exteriors windows and casings. Protection and safety programs were designed to accommodate working in an occupied setting, and all work was coordinated with school officials to minimize disruptions to ongoing school operations. At present, preconstruction is completed. The Center for Diagnostic Medicine will include a sophisticated and highly advanced laboratory program with an Electron Microscope, a Microbiology Lab, a Surgical Pathology Lab and a Molecular Infectious Disease Lab. Substantial infrastructure upgrades, including HVAC with stainless steel ductwork for exhaust, increased electric capacity and specialized plumbing equipment are required to support the busy laboratory.
