The staircase leads to the newly-created Command Center, which will be used for urgent communication and teleconferencing. The scope included new finishes and mechanical, plumbing and electrical upgrades, as well as an extension of the waiting area. The set-up for this project required an expedited submittal period in order to guarantee that all materials would be on site in the sequence in which they were required. The two-floor program included the renovation of patient preparation suites, electrophysiology laboratories for performing catheter-based procedures, device implantations, diagnostic studies with stereotaxic equipment and shielding requirements, research and virology labs, nurses offices, screening rooms, and reception area. The program also included extensive MEPS upgrades and infrastructure work, including the build-out of multiple MER closets, new chillers, air handlers, and exhaust. The hospital remained active during construction, so Cauldwell Wingate worked to minimize disruptions to the daily flow of activities.
