On the heels of our 29th Street TCO we thought why not talk a little about the Air permeability test. Our 155 West 29th Street - Self Storage project was subjected to a whole building air permeability (air barrier) test. The entire envelope of the building was pressurized using multiple fan assemblies to achieve a steady state condition of 75Pa, whereby the measured input CFM is directly correlated to building air leakage through the fabric of the structure. Correction factors were applied for exterior wind speed, air pressure and density etc. and happily, for the duration of the test, the building exceeded expectations with over a 20% improvement on the test criteria, meaning that the project is comparable to many military grade installations. As the take-up of available storage units continues, new tenants can certainly take comfort in the knowledge that their possessions are being stored in a tightly controlled environment.
