Susan L. Hayes serves as President and CEO of Cauldwell Wingate Company, LLC. Since Ms. Hayes assumed management of the business in 1996, the firm has grown to its current market position, with over 100 employees with annual sales exceeding $300 million. Under her leadership, Cauldwell Wingate is recognized as one of New York’s leading construction companies and has earned a stellar reputation for construction excellence, strong relationships and industry leadership.

Ms. Hayes is a construction professional known for her hands-on management style, long-term relationships and advocacy for advancing women’s roles in the construction industry. Her strong leadership style and mentoring has created a hardworking culture at the firm, with emphasis on “no surprises” for the client.

Support for Women in Construction
A strong advocate for the recruitment and advancement of women in the construction industry, Ms. Hayes serves as Board Chair for Non-Traditional Employment for Women (NEW), an organization that trains women for jobs in the building trades, the utilities and transportation industries, and facilities repair and maintenance. NEW helps qualified women access high-wage careers that provide economic independence and serves employers by providing them with trained, job-ready workers. Ms. Hayes is herself a rare woman construction executive, and many clients find it refreshing to find a woman at the helm of such a dominant construction firm in the New York market.
Leadership and Community Involvement
In 2005, Ms. Hayes was appointed to Mayor Bloomberg’s Commission on Construction Opportunity, a group of 34 construction and real estate leaders designated to work with the Mayor and other City officials to explore strategies and set goals for ensuring that all New Yorkers, particularly minorities, women, returning veterans and new high school graduates, are well prepared and can gain access to good, permanent jobs in construction. Ms. Hayes holds leadership positions in a number of business and professional groups and associations. She is a Vice Chair on the Board of Directors of the New York Building Congress, is First Vice President of the Contractors' Association of Greater New York and serves on the Board of Governors of the Building Trades Employers’ Association. She also serves as Municipal Chair in Oradell, New Jersey.
She has led the firm’s community outreach initiatives and has encouraged all of the firm’s employees to
participate in various community and charitable activities including Homes for the Homeless, Habitat for
Humanity, Principal for a Day and delivery of Girl Scout cookies to members of the military serving in Iraq, among numerous other endeavors. The firm is committed to industry advancement and offers a 6-week summer internship program for students ages 16-22 to "whet their appetite" in construction.
Ms. Hayes began her career in the construction industry in the early 1980s as a Controller for a demolition
subcontractor where she developed strong relationships in the real estate industry, many of which are current clients of Cauldwell Wingate today. She later founded her own consulting firm, Spicer Hayes, where she served as Principal and Partner, and which was later acquired by Hill International. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Correctional Administration from John Jay College, City University of New York. She lives with her husband of 28 years, Kevin, in Bergen County, New Jersey.
