The current Visiting Nurse Service of New York (VNS) corporate headquarters building is a grand brick and limestone building with eight stories and a penthouse, built in 1920 by the noted Walker & Gillette Architects. The building was originally a single-family residence and was donated to VNS by the Lamont family in the 1950s. As a landmarked structure, the VNS building required careful restoration under the strict guidelines of the Landmarks Preservation Commission.

An unusual exhibit at Greenwich Village subway station has turned into places normally reserved for advertising images into a subterranean gallery showcasing 200 projects form New York-based architects and other design professionals.

To reflect their ever-growing prominence, ANZ retained noted architects, Mancini Duffy to create a spectacular new U.S headquarters office in New York City. In order to minimize any disruption to their core business, ANZ retained Cauldwell Wingate to quickly build-out a space that would reflect the bank’s premier status.

Where Few Women Go: A Building Site
Sharon Darling, 24, is a graduate of a program at Nontraditional Employment for Women, a group that prepares women for union jobs in the building trades, and has been an apprentice with Electricians Local 3 for nearly a year. In five years, she will attain the status of mechanic, earning $40 to $50 an hour and the authority to delegate grunt work like hauling 90-pound bales of wire to apprentices like her. She lives in Midwood, Brooklyn.
